Lodging

The tournament will be held at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier at 1 Rideau Street in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  Room are CA $169 (US $134.88 on 8/24) plus taxes per night.  The telephone number is (613) 241-1414.

Please reserve your rooms by December 26th!!

The Chateau Laurier is a magnificent property located in the center of Ottawa where the Rideau Canal joins the Ottawa River.  I urge you to Google the hotel to get a preview of both its rooms and its elegant public spaces.

The canal drops into the river through several locks right next to the hotel, so the hotel is right on the fall line.  So, go out the door and walk West, you go slightly “up”; go out the door and walk East, you go slightly “down.”  “Up” takes you onto a two-mile loop passing Ottawa historic buildings and museums, crossing the frozen river and falls twice.  “Down” takes you, in a block, to the up-scale Rideau Centre (mall), featuring an outstanding food court and the multi-block By Ward District of shops, bars, coffee houses, and restaurants.  Other shops, bars, coffee houses, and restaurants are located in the business/financial district, which is “up” from the hotel and away from the riverside.

The canal itself—frozen in January—becomes the world’s longest ice-skating “rink.”  Skates are available for rent at stations along the tow path.  Concessions along the tow paths also sell snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.  Often, on weekends, musical groups perform along the tow paths.

Ottawa is not as large as Toronto or Montreal—and not as cosmopolitan. Nonetheless, it is a charming, historic city with much to see and do.  The city, the hotel, and the tournament should make this first-time CFA visit to Canada’s capital memorable.
