Dear Colleagues in Forensics,

You are cordially invited to the Twenty-first Annual Morgan State University Invitational Forensics Tournament to be held at the University on Friday and Saturday, November 4 and 5, 2016.  The tournament will offer two rounds and finals of eleven events.  The tournament will also offer four preliminary rounds of Parliamentary Debate with an appropriate final round.  Finally, there will be three rounds of Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

I will give first through sixth place awards in each event, in Pentathlon and to the top six Parliamentary Debate speakers.  There will be Sweepstakes awards for the top six teams.  In addition, if warranted, I will give top non-advancing novice awards in each event (except in Duo and Parliamentary Debate).  Novices are those in their first year of competition, so please indicate on the registration form which students are novice competitors.

Sweepstakes points are awarded as follows.  In final rounds, first place receives six points, second place receives five points and so on.  In the preliminary rounds, each first place receives three points, each second place receives two points and each third place receives one point.  But, in preliminary rounds, to “level the playing field,” points will be awarded only to each team’s top three competitors in each event.  In debate, each win receives 1.5 points (with a cap at six points).  The top two Parliamentary Debate teams will earn six points, the next two teams will earn four points and the next two will earn two points.  L-D Debate individuals will be awarded points for their final placements consistent with individual events (first place receives six points, second place receives five points, etc.).  There will be three rounds of any event too small to warrant a final round.  In that event, competitors will earn sweepstakes points consistent with their final placements in the event and will also be awarded preliminary round points, which will be capped at six.

In the minds of the founders and of those who regularly attend, the CFA Winter Tournament is a special tournament, whether it’s held in Charleston, Montréal, or Clearwater.  To have some time to enjoy your visit, we hope you’ll arrive on Thursday, see Clearwater’s sites on Friday morning, and stay over Saturday night to enjoy the fine cuisine and nightlife. And yes, regardless of whether we go North or South, the CFA Winter Tournament is more expensive, but that’s because, since its inception more than 25 years ago, CFA has wanted to offer at least one event that was “special.”  Well, this one is special and we hope you come to Clearwater not just to compete, but to experience all that this Southern destination has to offer.

Dear Coaches, Teams, and Friends:

We are delighted to invite you to Wilkes-Barre, PA, for The Wilkes University Harold Cox Invitational Forensics Tournament on Friday and Saturday, February 3rd and 4th, 2018.  We are looking forward to offering an organized and timely event.

This tournament will feature eleven CFA sanctioned events, if registration allows, with two preliminary rounds of individual events followed by finals which will include the top six competitors in each category. This year, for the first time, we will be offering Declamation.  We will be holding this event on a trial basis and reserve the right to cancel if the event does not attract a competitive field.  The debate competition will include four preliminary rounds of both Parliamentary and Lincoln-Douglas Debate and a final round, if entries warrant it, based on number of schools and distribution of entries.

The Wilkes University Harold Cox Invitational Forensics Tournament is in conjunction with CFA and each team’s points will count toward the Welch-Strine Trophy and each person’s scores will count toward CFA’s end-of-year individual awards.

For directions to our campus, please use the following address for MapQuest or GPS systems……..84 West South St., Wilkes-Barre, PA18766. Parking will be available in all of our campus lots for free after 4 pm on Friday afternoon.  The most convenient lot is behind the Wilkes Student Center on South St., between South Franklin St. and River St.  If you need more specific directions or earlier access, please contact me and I can make arrangements.

Should you have any questions, please call me at 570-408-4210 or email me at Christine.mellon@wilkes.edu.  My team and I look forward to hosting you this February.
